Chantal's review - Cleansing & Hydrating Melt **Resident Recommended**

I have been pleasantly surprised by this sumptuous cleansing melt as I would usually steer clear of a product I perceived to be too rich for my skin type.  My skin feels thoroughly clean, nurtured and balanced and not a sign of any breakouts that I may have expected from a product like this.

The melt packs a punch and dissolves away all my makeup – including stubborn waterproof eyeliner and mascara – whilst managing to be gentle, silky smooth and nourishing.  The scent is perfect for an evening cleansing routine as the sweet orange blossom and lavender offer a touch of relaxation too.  Only a small amount it needed so I can see this lasting a fair amount of time.

The sustainability side of this product has totally blown my mind.  Not only does the melt have a dual purpose – cleanser and moisturiser – as it leaves a very light oil-like residue that can soak into your skin over night, but the packaging is completely compostable (or reuseable if you are a container hoarder like me!)  I’m left wondering why all packaging hasn’t moved to be 100% biodegradable!

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a gorgeous non-foaming cleansing that is tough enough to remove makeup but tender enough to nurture.

Carthamus Tinctorius Seed Oil (Safflower Oil), Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter (Cupuacu Butter), Ricinus Communis Seed Oil (Castor Oil), Theodroma Cacao Seed Butter (Cacao Seed Butter), Mangifera Indica Seed Butter (Mango Butter), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Oil (Sweet Orange Oil), Hippophae Rhaminoides Fruit Oil (Sea Buckthorn Oil), Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate, Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate, Lavendula Angustifolia Oil (Lavender Oil), Tochopherol, Kaolin, Bisabolol.

Allergens: Citral, Geranio, Limonene, Linalool (all compounds of natural essential oils).

Those hard-to-pronounce ingredients explained:

Polyglyceryl4oleate – One of the three naturally derived emulsifiers in the cleansing melt. It helps to remove the melt from skin without leaving a heavy residue behind. It is made from sunflower oil and is both skin friendly and PEG free.

Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate – 100% RSPO certified segregated sustainable palm kernel oil.  Another emulsifier to help the cleansing melt leave a silky soft feel on the skin.

Cetearyl alcohol – A naturally derived emulsifier which is a flaky white, waxy, solid material. It is oil soluble, but it is not water-soluble. A mixture of fatty alcohols, it enables the natural plant oils to break down easily when applied to the skin, allowing the active ingredients to be of utmost benefit.

How to Use

For the perfect ethical cleansing ritual:

Using clean, dry fingers (or a small spoon) take a minimum 5p size scoop into your dry palm. Massage in circular motions onto your dry face including the eye area if make up removal is needed.

Relax for 2 minutes, enjoying the uplifting aroma. Remove in sweeping motions with a facial cloth soaked in warm water.

About the Plastic Free Sulapac Packaging

Sulapac® is a biodegradable and microplastic-free material made entirely from renewable sources and FSC-certified wood.

What Sulapac looks like after 21 days in an industrial composter. It will continue to degrade leaving no trace or harm to the environment.

What to do when it is finished?

This depends on your world view. The container is so beautiful in it’s own right, it could be kept to store precious items like special jewellery.

You could also drop it in your compost bin or depending upon your local recycling facilities, you could send it to landfill where it will happily degrade and not pollute the environment.  If you have local industrial composting facilities, it will be pretty much gone in a few months!

I have mature skin and I just love this cleansing balm. It is so soft, no pulling or dragging the skin on applying, then washes off to leave skin well cleansed and really soft. No tight feeling whatsoever – gorgeous. The pot is lovely too – it’s a yes from me!
